Member Licence and Professional Corporation Renewal
Annual renewal of your member licence for the period January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025 (2025 member licence) is required to be completed online through the Portal by December 1, 2024 (Regulatory Bylaw 16.5).
Renewal of your professional corporation (if applicable) for the period January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025 (2025 permit) is required by The Professional Corporation Act.
Please note the firm licence and registration renewal is completed online separately and you will receive a separate communication for the firm (if applicable) on November 1, 2024. Click here for the firm renewal process guide.
For any questions completing renewal, please consult the guide or video or email us at licensing@cpask.ca.
Information Required for Renewal
We recommend that you gather the following information prior to proceeding online (for more information on the minimum licensing qualifications, please visit our website).
-
Eligible practical experience hours in professional accounting (comprehensive or specified licences) or number of completed compilation engagements (compilation licence) within the past 12 months.
-
Details supporting verifiable continuing professional development activities relating to the practice of professional accounting (i.e., assurance or financial reporting subject matter for comprehensive or specified licences OR subject matter relating to compilations or quality management for the compilation licence) since January 1, 2024.
-
The name and member ID number of the licensed member providing your competency assessment reference (comprehensive or specified licences). Alternatively, you may complete a self-assessment of your competency as it relates to practice professional accounting (available in the online renewal form for all licence types).
It is recommended that you clear your internet browser’s history and use a private window or incognito mode prior to beginning renewal.
Not Renewing?
If you do not intend to renew your licence for 2025, you are required to email licensing@cpask.ca to advise this prior to December 1, 2024. A separate voluntary licence cancellation notice form will be sent to you and includes an acknowledgment from you. All licence cancellations include publication. Cancellation after December 1 may not be reflected in the firm roster and the firm may be billed for the ‘CPA Licensed Member’ category. Refunds for any incorrect categories within the firm roster will not be processed.
Changes to Licence Type
If you require changes to the type of licence you have, email licensing@cpask.ca and we will forward the required application (as applicable) or make adjustments to your licence type before you proceed with renewal.
Licence is Renewed Upon Submission
Once you have submitted the renewal information, you will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours that summarizes the information entered. This completes the renewal process and you may proceed to authorize engagement reports in 2025. You may review a digital copy of your licence within the Portal 24 hours after submission under My Profile > Licence. We may request further information within 30 days of the renewal submission.
If you note any errors or incorrect information in your licence, email licensing@cpask.ca with the adjustments and your record will be updated. Please retain records of all the information used in your licence renewal application.
Other Forms to Submit (as applicable)
If you do not meet the minimum practical experience hours requirement, please complete an exemption request form. Please email your completed exemption request to licensing@cpask.ca by December 1, 2024. All exemption requests are approved by the Professional Practice Committee. Based on the information included in your renewal, your licence may be approved for an exemption, may have conditions listed, or may be cancelled.
If you do not meet the minimum CPD requirements, please send an email to licensing@cpask.ca by December 1, 2024 outlining the CPD you intend to take within the next year to address the shortfall for approval by the Registrar or the Professional Practice Committee. If you were previously approved for CPD plan but have not yet addressed the requirements and do not expect to by December 31, 2024, email licensing@cpask.ca.
If required, please allow approximately 30 days to process approval of your exemption request or approval of your CPD plan.
Licence Expires if Not Renewed Before December 31, 2024
A licence is considered expired if not renewed prior to December 31, 2024. After December 31, you will no longer be permitted to practice professional accounting and may be subject to a cease and desist and/or penalty if you continue to practice without a licence. If your licence is expired and you wish to continue practicing professional accounting, you may be required to complete and meet all licensing qualifications on an initial licence application.
