Moving to or Working in Another Province

CPAs work in diverse fields that often take them to other provinces. Therefore, it is important to know the Rules regarding your registration as a member with CPA Saskatchewan.

Maintaining your Saskatchewan Membership

If you have moved out-of-country and wish to continue representing yourself as a CPA in Saskatchewan, you must maintain your membership with CPA Saskatchewan as a Primary member.

If you have moved to another Canadian province and wish to continue representing yourself as a CPA in Saskatchewan, you must maintain your membership with CPA Saskatchewan as an Affiliate member.

The following must be completed before you will be considered an Affiliate member:

  1. Register as a member with your new provincial body prior to April 1. No member registration fees paid to CPA Saskatchewan are transferred to your new provincial body.
  2. After you have been admitted as a Primary member with that provincial body, please provide confirmation to CPA Saskatchewan of such.
  3. CPA Saskatchewan will change your membership category to ‘Affiliate’.
  4. On or after April 1, you will need to complete your member renewal as an Affiliate member and pay member fees of $175+GST. You will also need to declare that you have reported your CPD requirements to your new provincial body.
  5. Going forward, you will report your full annual CPD and three-year cycle requirements to your new provincial body.

Resigning your Saskatchewan Membership

If you have moved to another Canadian province and do not wish to continue representing yourself as a CPA in Saskatchewan, you must resign your membership with CPA Saskatchewan.

The following must be completed before you will be approved for resignation:

  1. Register as a member with your new provincial body prior to April 1. No member registration fees paid to CPA Saskatchewan are transferred to your new provincial body.
  2. After you have been admitted as a Primary member with that provincial body, please provide confirmation to CPA Saskatchewan of such and request the resignation application form.
  3. Return your CPA Saskatchewan issued certificate(s) to our office.
  4. After we have received your resignation application and certificate(s), your resignation from CPA Saskatchewan will be approved by the Registrar.
  5. Your resignation request must be received prior to May 15. After this date, you will be liable for late fees pursuant to Board Rule 467.1 and will resign not in good standing, which involves a publication on the CPA Saskatchewan website on a named basis.

Registering with CPA Saskatchewan as an Affiliate Member

If you have obtained a CPA (or legacy CA, CMA, CGA) designation from another Canadian province and will be representing yourself as a CPA (or legacy CA, CMA, CGA) in the province of Saskatchewan, you will be required to register as an Affiliate member with CPA Saskatchewan.

Board Rule 302.1 (c): “affiliate member” means a member who has designated their member registration with another Provincial Institute as their primary member registration in Canada.

To apply, please request the Affiliate application form by emailing the Registrar. Complete applications take approximately thirty (30) days to process.

You may not use the title “professional accountant”, the designation “Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA)” or legacy designation in Saskatchewan, until your application has been processed and the confirmation of your membership approval has been sent to you from the Registrar.
